Scalable and Resilient Routing Protocols for Large Wireless and Ethernet-based Networks

Geographic routing is a scalable routing technique. However existing geographic routing protocols have several restrictions that prevent it from being applied to practical wireless and wireline networks. In this dissertation, we focus on how to apply geographic routing to practical network environments. We present two novel geographic routing protocols, namely MDT and GDV, for practical wireless networks. We then present the architecture and protocols of ROME, a layer-2 network designed to be backwards compatible with Ethernet and scalable to tens of thousands of switches and millions of end hosts.
